Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Cui Jianchan, today paid a final courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd.
His Excellency Cui Jianchan was accredited on January 4, 2017, and after four years of service, his tenure has come to an end. “You have represented China well, the Foreign Minister said. Moreover, Minister Todd relayed to the Ambassador that their high level of engagement serves as a testament to his commitment to the people of Guyana.
“We have developed stronger ties with China under your leadership and I know that we will continue to have strengthened relations for the mutual benefit of the people of China and Guyana,” the Minister said.
“I love Guyana,” the Ambassador said. “It has left a mark on my heart,” he continued. Further, he shared that he is proud to have witnessed the enhancement of relations between the two countries through increased bilateral cooperation on several ongoing and recently completed projects including the recent rehabilitation of the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), the construction of a four-lane highway on the East Coast of Demerara, and the ongoing extension of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, among other. Additionally, China continues to provide several scholarship and training opportunities for Guyanese.
The Government of China continues to extend assistance to Guyana in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The Government of Guyana received N95 Masks, medical disposable clothing, infrared thermometers, protective goggles, and other medical protective gear, through collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Georgetown. The Government also received COVID-19 assistance through the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundations.
Guyana and China established diplomatic relations on June 27, 1972, and have since maintained a vibrant program of cooperation covering a diverse field of activities.
