President Dr Irfaan Ali, this afternoon, attended a reception to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Republic of Chile. The Head of State and the Chilean Ambassador to Guyana, Juan Manuel Pino Vasquez, exchanged gifts and committed to continue bilateral relations.
President Ali gave the Ambassador a painting entitled “Elusive 2”—a self-motivated and inspired painting done by local artist Dillon Craig, highlighting Guyana’s natural beauty, including Mount Roraima and the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls. The piece also includes the powerful raptor, the Harpy Eagle and Guyana’s national animal, the Jaguar.
The Ambassador presented the President with a framed piece of tapestry that was specially made for the occasion by a “Mapuche artisan” from Chile who belongs to an organisation that seeks to generate fair trade and the development of the indigenous Chilean ancestral culture.
Several Government ministers also attended the event, which was held at the Pegasus Hotel.
Guyana and Chile established diplomatic relations on July 22, 1971.
