I had the pleasure and honour to sign a few moments ago the Amendment to the Defence Agreement between the Hellenic Republic and the United States. It is an Agreement that safeguards Greek interests; an Agreement that, we believe, establishes a protective shield for our country. It also creates a shell that allows the United States to invest in Greece, not only for the improvement of our country’s defence facilities, but to do so in a broader framework of cooperation that is being established and improved.
I would also like to make it clear that this Agreement, like the previous Agreement signed with France, is not directed against anyone. On the contrary, it creates an axis of stability and improvement of the quality of life for the societies of the region.
It is a very good day for our country.
Thank you very much.
