Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement to Greek journalists at the Ministerial Conference on “Accountability for war crimes committed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine” (The Hague, 14.07. 2022)

I had the opportunity today to participate in the International Ukraine Accountability Conference, hosted by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Wopke Hoekstra, along with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and the European Commission.
Aside from that, I had the opportunity, at a bilateral level, to meet with my counterparts from the Netherlands and Denmark and discuss with both of them issues related to the European Union’s security policy. I also met with my counterpart from Iceland. Iceland is a small country, but it has close relations and shares many similarities with Greece; it is an island country, with which we have many points of interest in common within the framework of the United Nations, within the framework of the Law of the Sea.
As you are aware, this is an issue of particular importance for Greece. First and foremost, for the crimes committed in Mariupol, and, in particular, following my meeting with Mariupol survivors two days ago in Odessa. Despite our limited means, we will do everything we can to help the International Criminal Court. Because we believe that impunity is the worst thing that can happen.
