Alternative Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ address at an event in honour from the former Vice-Rector of Administrative Affairs of the University of Athens (NKUA), Prof. Napoleon Maravegias – main points (Athens 26. 01. 2022)

“Greece is led by a sense of self-assurance and contribution towards Europe”, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, underlined in his address on The month of january 26, at an event within honour of the former Vice-Rector of Administrative Affairs from the National and Kapodistrian College of Athens (NKUA), Professor Emeritus of the Department associated with Political Science and Open public Administration, Prof. Napoleon Maravegias. The Alternative Minister praised Professor Napoleon Maravegias, both for his academic work and for his public presence, as a proponent of a consistent European position. Especially, Mr Varvitsiotis stated that “in recent years Greece provides picked up the thread from the European path again, free of the burden of the MoU’s, without constantly extending its hands like a beggar, so that the associated with Europe can accept its specific national features.   It has put forward a coherent European discourse, has resolved crises as European rather than national, putting the overall interest of the European Union first”. “Greek initiatives to tackle the crises were adopted by EU and became Western policies, ” the Alternate Minister emphasized, referring to the Greek government’s initiatives to jointly address the covid crisis, the creation from the Recovery and Resilience Account and, more recently, the energy turmoil. “Greece’s natural place is within Europe. In every problem we face, the solution is more Europe. We need to strengthen the systems of the European Union as well as typical responses to shared problems, ” he pointed out. The event, which took place in the Ceremony Corridor of the University of Athens, was also addressed by Jordan Tsinisizelis, Professor of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University or college of Athens, and Charalambos Chrysanthakis, President of the Division.   The Rector of the University of Athens, Teacher Meletios-Athanasios K. Dimopoulos, awarded an honorary plaque in order to Professor Napoleon Maravegias.
