5th Session of Joint Economic Committee between Greece and Turkiye (Athens, 24.01.2022)-JOINT COMMUNIQUE

The Greek-Turkish Joint Economic Committee (JEC) concluded successfully the work of its 5th Session that took place today, Monday January 24th 2022, in Athens with the signing of a Protocol by the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Konstantinos Fragogiannis and the Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mr.  Mustafa Tuzcu, who co-chaired the Meeting.

The Heads of Delegations expressed their satisfaction for the reactivation of JEC, whose last Session took place more than 11 years ago, in Ankara, in 2010.

The items on the Agenda of the JEC included the following:

a) bilateral trade and ways to further diversify it and increase it in a balanced way;

b) investment initiatives and the encouragement of companies to engage in joint initiatives in Greece and Türkiye;

c) enhancement of the collaboration in the energy sector in order to ensure energy supply security;

d) further cooperation in the field of environmental protection, waste management, water quality and resources, as well as other important issues related to climate change such as forest fire prevention;

e) cooperation in the field of transport (road, railway, maritime, air transport);

f) enhancement and diversification of trade in agricultural products;

g) reactivation of the bilateral cooperation on Research and Innovation.

Specifically regarding tourism, both sides expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved in the bilateral cooperation in the field, during the 4th Session of the Greek -Turkish Joint Tourism Committee that took place on November 18, 2021 and the 9th Greek-Turkish Forum on Tourism held in Izmir, which took place on November 17, 2021 and reiterated their commitment to explore ways to enhance their cooperation, with the aim to increase the tourist flows between the countries.

Upon completion of the works of the 5th Joint Economic Committee both sides expressed their commitment to continue working on building and strengthening the elements contained in the positive agenda, focusing on promoting economic cooperation and trade exchanges between the two countries.
