PRIME MINISTER RABUKA RECEIVES A COURTESY CALL FROM THE VICE CHAIRMAN OF CHINA INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION AGENCY (CIDCA)

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka received a courtesy call from the vice-chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Mr. Tang Wenhong at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this afternoon. The meeting also highlighted partnership opportunities in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, trade and investment with prospects for Fiji’s economic diversification.He said CIDCA’s visit to Fiji fully demonstrates China’s firm commitment to developing China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership and the profound friendship between the two peoples.Since 2014, China has set up the Juncao technical demonstration center in Nadi and provided Juncao technical assistance to Fiji. On the same note, Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged the signing of the two Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will further strengthen the mutual cooperation between the two nations.Under the Juncao project, more than 1,700 female farmers and persons living with disabilities in Fiji have been trained to support them in livelihood programs and capacity building initiatives. Ambassador Zhou said China is ready to provide new opportunities for cooperation and share its development dividends with more countries. Ambassador of the People’s Republic China to Fiji, H.E Mr. Zhou Jian said that upon the inauguration of the new Fiji government and China’s new state leadership, it is of great significance for China to designate a high-level delegation to synergize the development strategies for future cooperation.The MOU on Strengthening Development Cooperation and Promoting the Implementation of the Global Development Initiative and a new Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, was signed between CIDCA vice chairman Mr. Tang and Assistant Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister Hon. Sakiusa Tubuna. During his first official visit to Fiji, Mr. Tang launched the China and Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, which has been upgraded as the China-Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center. It will be located in Fiji and will assist the Pacific region as a whole. Mr. Tang thanked Prime Minister Rabuka for the opportunity to meet in person and discuss the key areas of cooperation between the two nations. Prime Minister Rabuka reaffirmed Fiji’s support for the One-China Policy, given the significance to Fiji and China’s diplomatic relations over the past 48 years. He thanked the People’s Republic of China for supporting Fiji over the years, particularly towards the socioeconomic development.
