In 2019 over one fifth of the population of the EU was living in conditions of poverty and social exclusion, which includes almost 18 million children. In response to this, on 24 March 2021, the European Commission published a proposal for a Council recommendation establishing a European Child Guarantee and called on EU countries to draw up measures to guarantee social inclusion for children at risk and ensure they can realise their potential.
The main theme of the conference will be a discussion on putting the recommendation into practice and how EU countries can prepare and follow up measures to provide children across the EU with equal opportunities.
