Presidency of the Council of the EU,
Justice and citizens’ rights,
To mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Istanbul Convention, the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU is organising a high-level conference to review the 10 years of the convention’s existence, including analysing the steps forward and steps backward, the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, and responses to the new forms of violence against women. The latter consideration interlocks with the EU priority to put an end to all forms of violence against women and girls.
High-level representatives of EU governments, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and international organisations such as the Council of Europe will be participating. Civil society organisations, social partners, professionals, and experts will also be involved in and be closely co-operating with the conference.
