Whole-of-Government support of SDGs

On 23 August 2017, the Minister for Foreign Policy, Mr. Anders Samuelsen, and the Minister for Development Co-operation, Mrs. Ulla Tørnæs, co-hosted a thematic discussion with a total of seven Danish ministers on the value of partnerships between authorities abroad.

They stressed that by combining and coordinating our efforts, we can make full use of Denmark’s positions of strength. Our societal model and companies possess many of the solutions sought by others: energy-efficient and green solutions; strong export industries in a range of sectors, including food and agriculture, cleantech, life sciences and shipping. In terms of foreign policy this represents Danish “soft power”.

The scope for partnerships between authorities abroad will expand in the near future to include a handful of selected high income countries with strong potential for enhancing collaboration to the benefit of Danish key export sectors.

The “Partnership with Denmark” facility was launched in 2015 as a pilot initiative. Today the facility is permanent and includes 27 strategic sector partnerships.  With this facility, Denmark pursues synergies between development cooperation and trade and at the same time strengthens bilateral relations with 14 strategic important countries (Brazil, Colombia, Mexico; Ghana, Kenya, South Africa; Turkey, Iran; Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, India).
