The Danish MFA advises against all non-essential travel worldwide until the end of the month.
For almost two months, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against all non-essential travel worldwide due to the spread of COVID-19. Today, this travel advice has been extended. This step is part of the Danish Government’s overall approach to address COVID-19. This decision is based on an assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic, local travel restrictions, other countries’ rules regarding quarantine and the risk of cancelled flight departures.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jeppe Kofod, says:
“I know there are many Danes, who are concerned about their summer holiday plans. We Danes are eager to travel, and like many I am looking forward to things returning to normal. Unfortunately, we are simply not there yet.”
“When we travel on holiday, we all prefer to be certain that we can return home, safely and easily, and without being infected or infecting others. However, the world is still to a large extent closed due to COVID-19. Borders are closed, flights are cancelled, airports are empty and many countries have internal restrictions, which will effect travellers. There is simply too much uncertainty. Therefore, we still advise against all non-essential travel worldwide.”
It is not yet possible to say, how long the situation will continue. Therefore, it is not possible to predict when we can travel safely and freely again.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jeppe Kofod, says:
“I would like to stress, that we base our advice on concerns for the safety and security of Danes travelling out into the world. I want to avoid that people are stranded abroad, passing infection on abroad or bringing it home with them.”
What does ‘non-essential travel’ entail?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all non-essential travel worldwide for the time being. The travel advice is instructive and non-binding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not give permissions, exemptions etc.
In the end, it is an individual choice whether to book a holiday abroad. Traveling takes place at your own risk. If you chose to travel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises that you plan flexibly and are fully aware of what is covered by your insurance as well as how you are secured through your travel company.
