Record Year for Invest in Denmark

Invest in Denmark’s 2015 results show that a record high number of foreign companies chose to invest in Denmark.
The national Danish investment promotion agency assisted 70 foreign companies in establishing a Danish presence. The majority of these projects were greenfield investments, while the remaining 24 projects related to existing companies in Denmark, including expansions of previous foreign investments, retention of existing jobs or the formation of strategic alliances with Danish companies.

The Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kristian Jensen is very satisfied with the results but is also determined to make it even more attractive to invest in Denmark:

“Denmark has a lot to offer foreign companies, and I am very pleased that we could assist 70 foreign investors with a successful investment project last year. Although Denmark achieves top rankings by the World Bank and Forbes Magazine for its excellent business environment, the Danish government is constantly working to further improve the framework conditions in Denmark.”

Strong Danish industries attract foreign investors

The strong Danish Cleantech and ICT/tech industries attracted the highest number of investments in 2015, but also life sciences, the maritime sector, foods and design are Danish key industries that foreign investors want to tap into.

Smart city and data centres are two relatively new strategic focus areas where Invest in Denmark experiences an increasing demand. Both global corporations such as Cisco and smaller, innovative players such as Technolution are now developing smart city solutions in Denmark.

2015 was also the year, where Apple decided to place one of the world’s largest data centres in Western Denmark.

Kristian Jensen says:

“Apple has shown the world that Denmark presents a great business case for green data centres. I am convinced that we will see more data centres and not least data centre suppliers start operations in Denmark in the coming years.”

When asked by EY, the auditing company which evaluates Invest in Denmark’s results, investors most often point to the high level of competences, the great business environment and a sound infrastructure as the main reasons for choosing Denmark.
