Ministry of Foreign Affairs appoints new Permanent Secretary of State

Lars Gert Lose will thereby succeed Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen, who, as previously announced, will be taking the position of Deputy Secretary-General at OECD in Paris.

Speaking on the nomination, Minister for Foreign Affairs Anders Samuelsen says:

“I applaud the decision to nominate Lars Gert Lose for the position of new Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Lars brings a solid and extensive professional understanding of the wide-ranging tasks performed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is important in a time where Denmark must navigate in an increasingly challenging foreign and security policy climate.
We need a strong foreign service to tackle the wide-ranging challenges, and to protect and pursue Danish interests internationally, in close collaboration with the rest of Denmark’s central administration. Given his background qualifications and personal traits, I am certain that Lars will successfully oversee and further develop the existing strong cooperation.

Together with the other ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I look forward to working with Lars. We would also like to thank Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen for his excellent work during five plus years as Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.”

Lars Gert Lose will take the position of Permanent Secretary of State on 1 January 2019.

Lars Gert Lose is currently Denmark’s ambassador in Washington, D.C. He has previously worked as Permanent Under-Secretary of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, and as Political Director and Head of Centre for Global Politics and Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Lars Gert Lose also headed the ministerial secretariat under two ministers for foreign affairs. Lars Gert Lose was hired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in 1997 and was posted for time at the Danish Embassy in Paris.
