IACC will take place in Copenhagen from 22-24 October. This year, focus is on anti-corruption in relation to development cooperation and the SDGs under the headline “Together for Peace, Security and Development: Now is the Time to Act.” The ambition is to move the fight against corruption from words to action.
Minister for Development Cooperation in Denmark, Ulla Tørnæs explains:
“Corruption is a significant challenge when it comes to strengthening democracy and economic development in all countries, not least in developing countries. Fighting corruption is a priority in the Danish Government’s strategy for development cooperation and humanitarian action. That is because we all too often see corruption affecting the most vulnerable people, deprived of their access to basic rights and welfare. This is why it is necessary to take action against corruption, in order to create sustainable development and deliver on the SDG’s. Amongst other things, it is about preventing development financing from ending up in the wrong pockets and make sure it goes to where it is needed the most.”
IACC is the largest anti-corruption forum in the world, gathering a wide range of actors around the global anti-corruption agenda. Corruption is indeed a global problem and in order to fight it, it requires strong international collaboration. The goal of this year’s IACC is to create a foundation for sustainable development by formulating real solutions to fighting corruption. To ignite this process the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnæs has invited around 40 ministers, leaders of international organisations and private companies for a high-level segment on the first day of the conference. Here, the participants are expected to present national and organizational action plans with concrete initiatives to fight corruption.
The conference takes place in the Bella Center and is organised by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with Transparency International and the IACC Council. IACC is expected to attract more than 1200 participants from over 100 different countries in the dialogue around anti-corruption, including representatives from the public sector, civil society, international organisations, the media, academia and the private sector.
Facts about the IACC
• Opening: The conference will open with speeches by Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs, and other international leaders.
• High-level segment: This year, IACC includes a high-level segment, where around 40 ministers, leaders of international organisations and private companies will come together to discuss strategies for the international collaboration on anti-corruption. Participants are expected to present concrete action plans.
• Events: More than 70 events will take place as part of IACC. These include anti-corruption related workshops, movie screenings and more.
• Fair Play concert: Tuesday the 23rd of October at 7 pm, the Fair Play live concert event will take place at music venue Vega in Copenhagen. Fair Play is a global movement of music against corruption, created by young, engaged and creative artists from around the world.
• Films 4 Transparency: Film festival Films 4 Transparency will take place from the 20th. – 25th of October. The festival will include movies that go behind corruption, inequality and injustice around the world.
