Thank you to Professor Marjorie Mayo, Professor Antoni Kapcia. and Dr Muir Houston who bring the number of British academics to make public nominations to eleven.
Professor Mayo explained some of the reasons for her nomination:
“I made this nomination because this is such an exceptional story of international solidarity. The Brigade’s altruism provides hope for the future. In these dark times we need to remember that there are positive alternatives for humankind.”
Professor Antoni Kapcia said:
“The Brigade’s sense of solidarity shown over the years has set an shining example to all countries to follow in creating genuine and altruistic cooperation in addressing the health needs of those less able to afford or manage their own healthcare responses.”
Dr Muir Houston said:
“I’m proud to be able to nominate the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade from Cuba for the Nobel Peace Prize for their selfless humanitarian and internationalist response to the COVID-19 pandemic with more than 3,700 Cuban health workers travelling to 39 countries to treat COVID patients. Hasta la victoria siempre!”
