Jakarta, October 21- In the framework of the Indonesia-Latin America and Caribbean Business Forum (INA-LAC), the president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, intervened by videoconference in Panel IV, with the topic ‘Business and post-pandemic Covid-19 investments’, as part of the island’s actions to boost its economic diplomacy in the current global context of gradual opening up and recovery.
Carricarte presented the Island’s efforts to increase food production and processing, oil exploration and extraction, as well as the opportunities that could be identified by Indonesian companies in areas such as the cultivation of coffee, coconut and the elaboration of its derivatives. He added that Cuba offers opportunities in various sectors to foster economic ties that can be beneficial to multiple companies.
Speaking to Prensa Latina, the president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce said that the Forum evaluated and promoted the opportunities “that exist in our region for Indonesian companies in both trade and investment,” while presenting the benefits provided by the Cuban national economic development program until the year 2030 in a series of sectors.
Despite the distance, he estimated that there are opportunities in a group of sectors in which Indonesia has achieved a high level of development, such as energy, construction, food processing. He also pointed out that within the framework of the event, signed a letter of intent to incorporate Cuba into a digital platform, conceived to promote business and trade between Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean.
The INA-LAC Business Forum was cataloged by Carricarte as an ‘important initiative at this time to promote commercial ties between Latin America and the Caribbean with Indonesia and possibly also with other countries’, while the organizers conceived it from a regional approach , and this is something very positive since it can help to build interregional integration and to build joint chains with Indonesian companies and other Southeast Asian nations.
With a view to strengthening economic cooperation between Indonesia and Cuba, the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and two companies with business in Cuba: Misbellemex and Casa Blanca, signed a Letter of Intent to join the Indonesian Business Network – Latin America and the Caribbean (INA-LAC). Misbellmex operates in sectors such as tourism and services, while Casa Blanca focuses on the import of paper. Both have collaborated with Indonesia for the past few years, with favorable positive views on Indonesian products.
By itself, Indonesia is a huge market of 270 million 200 thousand inhabitants with a Gross Domestic Product of one thousand 58 million dollars for a GDP per capita of three thousand 911 dollars, which makes it the seventh largest economy in the world and the largest in Southeast Asia.
