The blockade against Cuba is illegitimate and inhumane, stated a Jamaican Parliamentarian

Kingston, Jamaica, 21 January 2021.- Anthony Hylton, a Member of the Parliament of Jamaica, reiterated his condemnation of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States government against Cuba during a meeting with the Cuban ambassador, Inés Fors Fernández. The Jamaican legislator called the blockade an “inhumane, illegitimate policy” and advocated for its immediate lifting.

Hylton, who was Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade between 2006 and 2007, also rejected the decision of the outgoing US Administration to include Cuba on the unilateral list of nations sponsors of terrorism. He said this decision contrasts with the traditional solidarity and humanist position of the Greatest Island in the Antilles.

The Jamaican legislator stated that he is confident that Cuba will preserve its bonds with the sister Jamaican nation and other countries of the Caribbean Community.

For her part, the Cuban diplomat reiterated her gratitude for the traditional position of condemnation of the US blockade by the Parliament of Jamaica and emphasized the will of the Cuban government and people to maintain close cooperative relations with all sister Caribbean nations.
