Solidarity with Cuba in Greece and condemnation of the blockade in presentation of Guillen’s book.

Athens, July 14. The planned presentation of the new edition in Greek of the book The Big Zoo with poems by the Cuban poet and writer Nicolás Guillen, published by Atexnos publishing house, became an act of solidarity with Cuba, condemns the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US against the Caribbean island and of supporting the revolution, the government and the Cuban people, in the face of provocations and campaigns of lies about the Cuban reality organized and financed from the USA.
Cuba’s friend Velissarios Kossivakis, director of Newstar art Cinema and coordinator of the Greek initiative for the Peace Nobel Prize to the brigades, Henry Revee, was the moderator of the event. He began by denouncing the US maneuvers against Cuba, expressing his solidarity with the Cuban government and people and condemning the blockade. He emphasized that there is no doubt that the revolutionary process continues in Cuba, that it is in good hands.
Later, the Cuban ambassador to Greece, Zelmys María Dominguez Cortina, said a few words, where she commented on the importance of the great poet Nicolas Guillen and his work. In addition, she explained the effects of the blockade and the achievements of the revolution in the battle against COVID despite the difficulties, the current situation in Cuba, the provocations, the disorders instigated, organized and financed from the United States, the campaigns of lies and manipulations. of the Cuban reality, and the support of the people for the government that had managed to make the imperialist maneuvers fail and maintain control of the situation and citizen tranquility.
Kiki Alexopoulou, an outstanding expert on Latin American literature, commented on Guillen’s work, his characteristics and delved into the values of the book The Big Zoo, as well as the social and literary context in which Guillen wrote it. The representative Atexnos publishing house Iraklis Kakavanis expressed his support for the Cuban revolution, his condemnation of the blockade and said that the income obtained that day from the sale of the book would be donated to Cuba.
At the end there was a debate where several questions were asked which were answered by the ambassador and Ms Alexopoulou. There were many comments and expressions of support to Cuba and condemnation of the blockade such as: the member of the Hellenic parliament from Syriza party present at the event Nina Kasimati, said that she supported the people of Cuba and that “Greece should denounce these actions and aggressions against Cuba in pandemic conditions. which are violations of the Human Rights of the Cuban people and of international law ”. She urged to show support for the Cuban people. A representative of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), present at the event, said that the voice of the Greeks must be strong in support of Cuba, which is “our homeland, since it is the homeland of all communists in the world and carries great weight on her back and we must defend her ”. Other friends intervened to support Cuba and to comment on the fake news that had been used in this campaign that sought to discredit the Cuban government.
It was a solidarity event that brought together people from different political forces and social spheres, academics, parliament members, workers and the Greek people in general, which was joined by Cuban residents and their families supporting Cuba.
