Jamaica’s Minister of Health praises Cuba’s COVID-19 vaccine progress

Kingston, Jamaica, 27 January 2021.- Dr. the Honourable Christopher Tufton, Jamaica’s Minister of Health, praised in this capital the advances Cuba has made in research and clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccine candidates, and made public the interest of the Jamaican government in acquiring the Cuban vaccine as soon as it is available.

This was expressed in a press conference offered by the health minister, who also alluded to the possible acquisition of vaccines from other countries.

Cuban authorities have expressed that Covid-19 vaccine has been scheduled to be available in the first half of 2021, which will guarantee the immunization of its population before the end of this year.

Cuba has extensive experience in the development of vaccines, producing eight of those used in the immunization program. Cuba’s sovereignty in the production of vaccines has allowed the country to achieve 100% coverage in the vaccination program, considered among the highest levels in the world.
