Finnish Social Democratic MEP for greater ties with Cuba

Helsinki, March 16th. – This morning there was a virtual meeting between the Finnish Social Democratic MEP H.E. Mr. Eero Heinäluoma and the acting chief of mission of Cuba in this capital, Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry.

During the meeting, current issues such as the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral cooperation between Cuba and the EU in political matters and the challenges for the world in the post-pandemic economic field were addressed.

Heinäluoma highlighted the importance of the inter-parliamentary meeting between members of the Island’s National Assembly and the Group of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba of the European Parliament, held yesterday, March 15th, where the MEPs present in the meeting took the opportunity to condemn, once again, the unjust and inhumane Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. Likewise, he recalled his trip to Cuba in 2019 and the profitable meetings held at that time with authorities of the Communist Party, the National Assembly of the country and other Cuban organizations.

Rodríguez Etcheverry, for his part, sent the MEP a fraternal greeting from the Ambassador of the Island in Finland Eduardo Lazo Pérez, thanked Heinäluoma for the traditional position of support for Cuba in its fight against the Blockade and expressed the will to continue the favorable exchanges between the Embassy of the Greater Antilles and Finnish MEPs, as an essential part of the development of political ties between Cuba and the EU.
