Director General for the Americas of the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry meets with the Ambassador of Cuba

Addis Ababa, March 12, 2021. The Ambassador of Cuba, Vilma Thomas Ramírez, held a meeting with the new Director General for North, South American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Gebeyehu Ganga Gayito, who was recently appointed in this position.

During the meeting, that took place at the headquarters of that institution, both parties reviewed topics of mutual interest and the status of the bilateral cooperation in several sectors. They coincide in the importance of continuing to strengthen the links between the two countries, mainly in the economic and commercial areas, as well as, strengthen them in other spheres of cooperation.

The opportunity was propitious to update the Ethiopian counterpart on the impact of the measures to reinforce the blockade applied against Cuba during the last US administration, the unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the list of State sponsors of terrorism and the efforts our country is making to face the effects of COVID-19, despite the obstacles posed by the unjust sanctions imposed by the United States against the largest of the Antilles.

In the context of the dialogue, Ambassador Vilma Thomas thanked Ethiopia for its consistent support to Cuba in multilateral forums, mainly in the struggle against the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against our country. In that sense, Ambassador Gebeyehu highlighted Cuba’s strength and its ability to continue resisting and overcoming the limitations that this policy has imposed on the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years.
