Cuban and Qatari authorities celebrate the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The Ambassador of Cuba to Qatar, Oscar Leon Gonzalez, participated in the ceremony of planting 32 trees in Doha, along with members of the Embassy staff of the Republic of Cuba and the Cuban medical brigade working in the brotherly country. The action marks the thirty-second anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the State of Qatar, initiated on December 13, 1989.

The activity was attended as well by directors and health workers of the Cuban medical staff and executives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Municipality & Environment of the State of Qatar.

The planting of trees is also a modest contribution to the goal of the Qatari government and people to plant one million trees in the country.

Relations between Cuba and Qatar are excellent and cover the bilateral and multilateral fields. Their origins are marked by the close ties of friendship between Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and His Highness Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Both leaders gave a significant boost to the relations between our respective governments and peoples, which today are being continued by President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.

The most significant outcome has been cooperation in the area of health. As a result of this collaboration, thousands of Cuban health workers have provided their medical services to Qatari brothers and sisters and citizens of other nationalities. However, the potential for development is still vast and therefore the authorities of both countries are working to enhance and develop bilateral ties in sectors of mutual interest.
