Addis Ababa, March 2, 2021. The Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, H.E. Mrs Vilma Thomas Ramírez, offered an interview to the Ethiopian channel ETV, before the celebration of the 43 Anniversary of the victory in the Ogaden war of the Ethiopian and Cuban troops, which is known in this country as the Karramara Victory.
Ambassador Vilma underlined that the participation of Cuba in that military operation was aimed to help Ethiopia to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty and was based on the international solidarity principle, outlined by the Cuban Revolution leader, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. She highlighted that the Cubans only took from Ethiopia the mortal remains of its martyrs, who offered their lives alongside the brave Ethiopian soldiers.
Today, a longstanding brotherhood between both peoples and governments emanates from that historic circumstances, which has been reflected in the training in Cuba of thousands of Ethiopian professionals, in the cooperation provided by hundreds of Cuban professionals and technicians to Ethiopia, in several sectors of the economic and social life of this nation and in the mutual support shown in multilateral forums, highlighting the firm position of Ethiopia against the US economic, comercial and financial blockade on Cuba.
Likewise, the Cuban diplomat underscored that the Karramara Victory is an example for Ethiopia of what this people can achieve with unity.
