New York, 28 January 2021. Cuba denounced today, at a meeting held by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Member States of the Organization, the arbitrary and unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of State sponsors of terrorism, drawn up by the State Department of the United States.
“(…) we not recognize the authority of lists issued by the State Department of the United States designating countries as sponsors of terrorism, as they are unilateral lists that have no mandate or international legitimacy”, stated Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, who participated in the Quarterly Briefing to Member States, organized by UNOCT .
The Cuban diplomat underscored the impeccable conduct of the island in the fight against terrorism and recalled that it has been the Cuban people who have suffered this scourge in their own flesh, at the cost of 3,478 deaths and 2,099 persons with disabilities.
Rodríguez Abascal illustrated how such a measure against Cuba, taken by a discredit, dishonest and morally bankrupt administration, has been internationally rejected and by many sectors within the United States, including prominent members of the Congress, both in the House and the Senate, religious organizations in the United States and some international organizations.
