Cuba and Finland underscore the importance of advancing in adaptation to Climate Change

Helsinki, March 12th. – Charge D’Affaires a.i of Cuba in this capital Mr. Víctor M. Rodríguez Etcheverry, received at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission of the Caribbean Island the H.E. Mr. Jan Wahlberg, Ambassador of the Unit for Sustainable Development and Climate Policy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

In the friendly meeting that lasted for almost two hours, Rodríguez Etcheverry updated his Finnish counterpart on the implementation of the Cuban State Plan to confront Climate Change, known as “Life Task”. The Cuban diplomat said plan shows significant advances in the protection of ecosystems, mainly coastal ones, promotes the use of clean technologies and seeks to increase the use of generation of energy from renewable sources.

The Nordic diplomat stressed the importance of continuing the cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral sphere to seek joint solutions that will be sustainable in the long term, which mitigate the adverse effects of climatic phenomena; the results have a direct impact on the economy, on the habitat of the species and of the human being himself.

Wahlberg invited the acting head of mission of Cuba to participate in a forum on Climate Change, which he will soon conduct virtually with the heads of Spanish-American missions in Helsinki.
