Cheers to the Cuban Medical Mission in Jamaica

Kingston, Jamaica, February 3, 2021.- At the end of 2020, the Cuban Medical Mission in Jamaica registered very positive results in terms of health care provision, expressed Dr. Jose Armando Arronte Villamarín, Head of the Medical Cooperation Brigade in the Caribbean nation.

During the period, statistics revealed the white coated men and women´s dedication and commitment to this neighbouring country. “Between January and December of last year we recorded 8304 lives saved; 455,841 medical consultations conducted; and 459, 453 nursing procedures and 4345 surgeries performed. More than 60% of the PCR tests carried out in the country were practiced by Cuban professionals,” stated Dr. Arronte Villamarín.

The availability, professionalism and solidarity of the nearly 500 Cuban health professionals who provide services in Jamaica has been repeatedly recognized by the Jamaican Government and people. The aforementioned figure includes the 138 Cuban doctors and nurses who arrived in the Caribbean country in March 2020 to support COVID-19 confrontation.
