Antonis Skyllakos will always be “in the tower and on the boat”.

(Taken from Oriol Marrero’s Facebook, Embacuba Grecia councilor.) Athens, August 24. Various Greek media and social networks have released the sad news of the death of Antonis Skyllakos. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has declared that “with great sadness it says goodbye to Comrade Skyllakos”, who died “after a heart attack and after a long battle with the health problems that afflicted him.” For four decades he stood out for his consistency and self-denial in defending the positions, goals and values of the KKE. The KKE Central Committee has expressed its deepest condolences to his wife Kiki, his children Elías and Christos and all their relatives. ” Skyllakos was born in Larissa in 1949. He graduated in Law from Athens. He had a long history of struggles throughout his entire life. In 1974 he joined the Communist Youth of Greece. Between 1976 and 1981 he was secretary of the Committee of the Communist Party in the Prefecture of Larissa and between 1981-1987 he was secretary of the Committee of the Region of Thessaly. For several years he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece. Likewise, for many years he was a representative of the Communist Party in the parliament of the Greeks, as well as a member of the Parliament of Larissa. On June 1, 2000, he was elected a member of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Commission for the Review of the Constitution. He was admired for his values, for his modesty, humility and discreet spirit. On August 24 will be his funeral. With deep emotion and the gratitude that millions of Cubans would share, I just read in a publication of the Athens Branch of the Hellenic-Cuban Friendship Association that, “instead of wreaths at his funeral, the family of Antonis Skyllakos begs to everyone that this money is deposited in an existing account, through the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship with Cuba, as a show of solidarity and support with the island of the Revolution, with Cuba and its people ”, and they offer the necessary data so that people pay their personal tribute to the life and work of Skyllakos not with flowers, but by helping and contributing to the struggle of the Cuban people. Sophocles said that “the tower or the ship is nothing if the warriors are not inside”: thank you Antonis Skyllakos, a warrior who never abandoned and will never abandon the tower or the ship, thank you for your life and work, for your support of the heroic people of the Cuba that fights. Deep condolences, and eternal gratitude to the family for this gesture towards the people of Cuba, even in the midst of so much pain.
