Statement on World Day Against the Death Penalty

October 10, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada “This year, we mark the particular 20th World Day Contrary to the Death Penalty.   Canada is proud to be area of the World Coalition Against the Loss of life Penalty. Although we are encouraged by the progress made in abolishing capital punishment in certain countries, we continue to oppose the use of the death penalty in all cases everywhere. “A world without the death penalty is within our understand. On this day, Canada joins with the global movement in order to abolish the death penalty in calling on the minority of countries where funds punishment still exists to make sure due process and reasonable trials, to pause any planned executions and, to completely end the use of the loss of life penalty. ” The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of Foreign Affairs, these days issued the following statement: “Capital consequence is an affront to individual rights and dignity, a good ineffective deterrent to crime, and it often compounds injustice by intersecting with other kinds of discrimination.   No approach to justice is free from error, and the use of the death penalty can lead to irreversible injustice whenever those who are not guilty or who’ve been falsely accused are performed.
