Statement on the political transition in Chad

“Canada has closely followed the debates in the DNIS and congratulates all the participants from all political sides for their significant contributions in the debates with a view to building a stable and democratic future for Chad. “Canada commends the Government of Chad for its commitment to make progress on its political transition, including through the recent signature of the Peace Agreement in Doha and the establishment of the Inclusive and Sovereign National Dialogue (DNIS), which started on August 20, 2022. Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement: October 4, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada “Canada remains determined to support Chad in its transitional political process and beyond and urges the government to make every effort possible to engage in a constructive and inclusive dialogue with all public and political actors in Chad, including its international partners, to continue to build an inclusive, prosperous and democratic future for all Chadians.” “However, Canada is concerned by the DNIS conclusions from October 1, 2022, which do not seem to align with the consensus of the Plenary Assembly and do not consider the position of the African Union, in particular with respect to the eligibility of the members of the Transitional Military Council in the next elections.
