January 16, 2023 — Ottawa, Ontario – Worldwide Affairs Canada Global Matters Canada today issued the next statement: “Canada continues to oppose unilateral actions undertaken by possibly Israel or the Palestinian Specialist which contribute to the hardening of positions and are unhelpful to the cause of peace. “We are significantly concerned by the punitive procedures taken against the Palestinian Specialist, which were recently announced by the Government of Israel, and also the impact of those measures within the region’s stability and the prospect for a two-state solution. “Canada is a steadfast supporter of the Global Court of Justice since the principal judicial organ from the United Nations, and it recognizes the key role the court performs in the peaceful settlement of disputes. “We remain committed to the goal of comprehensive, just and lasting peacefulness in the Middle East, including the two-state solution resulting from immediate negotiations between the parties. ”
