Statement on commemoration of Beirut port explosion

“Following this particular tragedy, Canada responded quickly with early humanitarian assistance through its trusted global partners. Canada provided 20 dollars million in immediate humanitarian assistance and an additional million to aid early recovery efforts. This included the Government of Canada matching million generously donated by Canadians to the Lebanon Coordinating Fund to support the humanitarian education needs of people whose lifestyles have been affected by the devastation. The funding is assisting families and supporting minor farmers and the local foods chain. The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, nowadays issued the following statement in the commemoration of the Beirut slot explosion: “Today, Canada appears with the Lebanese people, once we recall the human tragedy that happened a year ago in the Interface of Beirut. Canada will always remember that this explosion wiped out at least 200 people, including children, wounded thousands, displaced 300, 000 people and destroyed half the city. Once we grieve, our hearts are usually with the victims’ loved ones, exactly who still await a full investigation. This was a devastating blow to Lebanon as it battled with an ongoing socio-economic problems made worse by the global pandemic. Canada reiterates its call for a full and transparent investigation into, and accountability pertaining to, the explosion in the Interface of Beirut. “We are also delivering million to the World Bank’s Lebanon Financing Facility toward the socio-economic recuperation of Lebanese people plus businesses in line with the bank’s Lebanon Reform, Recovery and Reconstruction Framework. “We continue to strongly stand with the Lebanese individuals and are ready to support them further. Canada will continue to keep reiterate that Lebanon’s market leaders must act now to form a govt that can and will begin the particular reforms the country so desperately needs.
