May 10, 2022 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Financial Development, spoke with Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister associated with Commerce and Industry, Customer Affairs and Food and Open public Distribution and Textiles. Minister Ng expressed her understanding for India’s openness to learn diverse trade issues and advance the long-standing economic and investment relationship in between Canada and India—a priority as Canada deepens important partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. Because Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine threatens the rules based international order, it is essential than ever for democracies in order to strengthen ties. Minister Ng emphasized the importance of advancing discussions on an investment protection contract between Canada and India, which would improve predictability and transparency for Canadian traders in India. During the call, Minister Ng plus Minister Goyal noted improvement in negotiations on a Canada-India Early Progress Trade Contract while working toward an extensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
