She will seek to generate momentum for any stronger, more open and more prosperous partnership between North america and the Indo-Pacific region that firmly supports regional serenity, stability and the rules-based worldwide order. February 4, 2023 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that she will travel to Delhi, India, from February 6 to 7, to deepen bilateral ties and foster stronger partnerships. She will build on the two countries’ discussed tradition of democracy and pluralism, a common commitment to a rules-based international system and multilateralism, mutual interest in growing our commercial relationship plus strengthening our extensive and growing people-to-people connections. Because of its strategic, financial and demographic importance on the planet, India is a critical companion in Canada’s pursuit of its objectives under our Indo-Pacific strategy (IPS) and on a global stage.   In Delhi, Minister Joly will meet with her Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister associated with External Affairs, to advance Canada’s engagement with India beneath the Indo-Pacific Strategy, and create possibilities for growth and wealth for the two countries. Both ministers will identify locations where Canadian and Indian interests converge and where the 2 countries could further work together on global and regional issues, especially as Indian holds the presidency of the G20 this year.
