February 5, 2023 : Ottawa, Ontario – Worldwide Affairs Canada “International Development Week, which takes place this season from February 5 to 11, celebrates the many methods Canadians work with partners within developing countries to help get rid of poverty and contribute to a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world. The actions of partners are critical to improving the United Nations Sustainable Growth Goals.   The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development plus Minister responsible for the Pacific cycles Economic Development Agency associated with Canada, today issued the following statement to mark International Development Week: “As the entire world responds to the COVID-19 outbreak, the climate crisis, growing conflict and displacement, international development continues to be central to finding our way forward. Canada’s international development work contains thousands of projects in over 150 countries. And although we know that millions of lives are actually changed by the projects Canada supports, we also know that the immediate results we see are often just the suggestion of the iceberg. “This week, I encourage you to definitely connect with international development businesses across Canada to learn more regarding their incredible work on meals security, climate action, wellness, education, gender equality and much more. Let’s get informed plus inspired to #GoForTheGoals with each other! ” “By approaching the world with care, empathy and a spirit of solidarity, international development is creating a brighter future for all. Whenever youths have the tools they need to reach their potential, everybody benefits. And when all people may participate in creating solutions to the challenges their communities face, those solutions are more likely to achieve success and take root. “Consider the ripple effects that eco friendly agriculture programs funded by Canada today will have designed for farmers and families tackling the food and climate crises in the decades to come. Picture what innovative solutions will spring from the minds associated with thousands of women and girls which feel more empowered to share their ideas thanks to women’s rights organizations and gender equality programs.
