Canada’s response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine builds on our deep connection to the Ukrainian people and understanding of Ukraine. This critical relationship can only be made possible through diplomatic engagement on the ground and working side by side with our friends and allies. Canada’s relationship with Ukraine is ironclad: we have stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine since long before the Russian invasion began. Canada remains a strong partner as Ukrainians continue to fight for their sovereignty and independence and will be there to support Ukraine through its recovery and reconstruction. A Ukrainian speaker, Ms. Cmoc has deep connections to the Ukrainian community in Ukraine and in Canada, and she is ready to help deepen Canada-Ukraine ties at all levels. She will serve as Canada’s eyes and ears in Kyiv, and ensure that Canada is able to continue to support Ukraine through this difficult time and for the long term. The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the appointment of Natalka Cmoc as Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine. She replaces Larisa Galadza.
