Various projects are carried out within the framework of bilateral cooperation

As part of the promotion of the bilateral cooperation, Burundi, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, signed an agreement with Belgium in development activities covering 75 million Euros in the areas of agriculture, education, health, good governance, etc. That was announced by the Minister, His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, during the presentation of the Ministry’s achievements for the first six months of the current budget year. Burundi then signed an agreement with Japan concerning the Bujumbura port rehabilitation project, the rehabilitation and modernization project of the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport in Bujumbura. In that regard, Burundi also supervised the construction project of the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation in Gitega, the assistance agreement for the sustainable development for the period 2022-2026 between Burundi and the United States via USAID in all areas of the sustainable development for an amount of 400 million Euros over five years, or 80 million per year. On the education side, Burundi has negotiated and obtained more than 271 scholarships and 56 training courses from the major partners including France, Morocco, Egypt, Japan, China, Algeria and India.
