The Ambassador of Burundi in Ankara presents the figured copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran

On Friday, May 24, 2022, the Ambassador of Burundi in Ankara, His Excellency Mr. Gérard Ntahorwaroye Bikebako presented the figured copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Government of Burundi has already proposed to the Iranian side to hold the first session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between Burundi and Iran in Tehran, at the end of the current year. The holding of this 1st session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between Burundi and Iran would be an opportunity to be able to relaunch the historic ties of cooperation in various fields that existed in recent years, in order to further strengthen them.
Burundi and Iran established their diplomatic relations on March 23, 1985 through the signing of an Agreement relating thereto. Very few actions followed in terms of bilateral cooperation. Nevertheless, through the private sector, Burundi has, for a time, imported oil. At the end of the visits made between the two countries in recent years, a Memorandum on cooperation between Burundi and Iran in the following areas was signed: technical and economic cooperation, geological and mining cooperation, in the field of agriculture, rural development and construction trade policy and police.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Islamic Republic of Iran congratulated the Ambassador of Burundi in Ankara and highly appreciated Burundi’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He took this opportunity to wish His Excellency Bikebako a good stay and good work. He indicated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to work within the framework of strengthening relations.
His Excellency Ambassador Bikebako was delighted with this historic event in his career. He informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Islamic Republic of Iran that the Government of Burundi wishes to strengthen bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Note that the Embassy of Burundi in the Islamic Republic of Iran currently has its residence in Ankara, Turkey.
