Presentation of commission letters of the General Consul of Burundi at Laâyoune in Morocco

On February 28, 2020, the Republic of Burundi opened its General Consulate at Laâyoune in Morocco. On January 23, 2021, by reciprocity of the fact that Morocco could not open in turn its resident Diplomatic Mission in Burundi, this General Consulate was closed to be reopened on February 18, 2021 after Morocco decided to open its Embassy in Burundi with residence in Bujumbura. On September 10, 2021, Dr. Bemnjan NDAGIJIMANA who was appointed by the President of the Republic of Burundi presented the letters of commission appointing him in his function of General Consul of Burundi in Laâyoune, Morocco.

The Republic of Burundi and the Kingdom of Morocco enjoy very good relations of friendship and cooperation. On October 25, 2010, Mr. Taib FASSI FIHRIM, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco, and Mr. Augustin NSANZE, Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation signed in Rabat, the Framework Cooperation Agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Burundi. The Burundian Government has already proceeded with its ratification.

On March 3, 2008, during the visit to Burundi of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Trade, Mr. Abdellatif MAZOUZ, Moroccan Government Envoy to the Government of Burundi, the two Sides, Burundian and Moroccan, agreed to continue cooperation in the fields below: scholarships, internships, Morocco-Belgium-Burundi tripartite cooperation in agriculture and water sector, exchange of observations by both Sides, Moroccan and Burundian, on the Cooperation Agreement Projects: draft Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of investments, draft Convention tending to avoid double taxation and to prevent fiscal evasion in tax matters, Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the sector of agriculture and ‘livestock, draft Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the field of Infrastructure, draft Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the Health sector.

As part of strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation between Burundi and the Kingdom of Morocco, Authorities, High Authorities and Parliamentarians respectively visited the two countries. The Government of the Republic of Burundi welcomes the good relations of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Burundi and hopes that they will be further strengthened. It welcomes, among other things, various supports that the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco grants to the Government of Burundi and the scholarships to Burundian nationals to have their studies or internships in Marc. The Government of Burundi thanks the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for having accepted the opening of a resident Diplomatic Representation at Rabat in order to strengthen bilateral relations, in particular to mobilize Moroccan private investors to come and settle in Burundi and participate in the execution of the priority programs and projects of the Strategic Growth Framework and Poverty Fight (CSLP II), of which the sectoral conferences took place in July and October 2013.
