69

At the beginning of the year, the Heads of the European Union and its Member States presented their sincere wishes for happiness and health to the President of the Republic, his family, the Burundian authorities and all Burundians.

According to the European Union and its member States, the year 2020 was intense, it saw the elections of new institutions in Burundi. On the world stage, it will have been marked by the pandemic, brought under control in Burundi, but that will however remain a great challenge in 2021.

They are delighted that financial cooperation with the International Organization of Francophonie has resumed, that Burundi is no longer considered a risk factor on the continent and has therefore been removed from the agenda of the Security Council of United Nations. The Heads of Mission are also delighted that the Burundian authorities have seized the opportunities which presented themselves and taken initiatives with a view to warming their relations with the European Union.

Note that cooperation between Burundi and the European Union dates back a long time. On the priorities of the President of the Republic, H.E Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE and the gestures made in particular on the occasion of the end of the year celebrations, the Heads of Mission express the wish that the climate of confidence is found, and a wish of mutual respect, of dialogue policy and sharing of values is translated as quickly as possible, on the basis of reciprocal commitments, in a gradual and complete normalization of relations between Burundi and the European Union.
