Delegation of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

As part of strengthening the cooperation between Burundi and Japan, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Mr. Ferdinand Bashikako received in audience, on October 7, 2021, a delegation from Japanese International Cooperation Agency from Tokyo.

In fact, the Head of the delegation Mr. MUROTATNI Ryutaro proceeded by the presentation of the implementation of development projects in Burundi, especially the support project in the agricultural sector of the province of Gitega for food security of the Burundian population.

In turn, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Mr. Ferdinand Bashikako reminded that Burundi and Japan are friendly countries during happy and hard times for a long time. The Permanent Secretary also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation is an eye-witness of the achievements of Japan in Burundi. He continued by saying that this project is very beneficial for the country because the Government of Burundi has prioritized the agricultural sector in its National Development Plan (PND Burundi 2018-2027).

The Permanent Secretary also invited the Head of the delegation of Japanese International Cooperation Agency Mr. MUROTATNI Ryutaro to participate in the increase of rice production in Gihanga commune.

The Permanent Secretary ended by asking the Head of the delegation of Japanese Agency for International Cooperation Mr. MUROTATNI Ryutaro to inform the Japanese Government that currently in Burundi there are no longer any communes considered as red zones because now security is fully controlled by the Government of Burundi in all corners of the country.

As a response to this, the Head of the Japanese delegation Mr. MUROTATNI Ryutaro promised that he will convey this realistic message of which he is a witness.
