Minister Genchovska: We continue to evacuate Bulgarians and foreign citizens from Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska met with the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Kyiv Kostadin Kodzhabashev and our Consul General in Odessa Svetoslav Ivanov. The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Bulgarian diplomats for the assistance they provided to our compatriots in their evacuation from Ukraine.

“The Bulgarian Embassy in Kyiv and the Consulate General in Odessa were among the last diplomatic missions to be evacuated. Thank you, there are no words to describe the evaluation of your work”, said Teodora Genchovska.

Our Ambassador to Ukraine Kostadin Kodzhabashev thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its support in this emergency situation and pointed out that our mission there has temporarily stopped working. The evacuation turned out to be a very difficult journey and people are still recovering from the experience, he added.

The Consul General in Odessa Svetoslav Ivanov also expressed his gratitude. “I was really aware of the enormous burden, as the main part of our diaspora is located in the Odessa region. This further mobilizes us to work without rest and in one breath. I hope and believe that we have managed to show the best of our diplomatic service abroad”, said Svetoslav Ivanov.

Regarding the continuing tensions in Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs assured that a good evacuation organization has been established. “We continue to evacuate Bulgarians as well as foreign nationals from Ukraine. At the moment, about 1,000 Bulgarian citizens have already been evacuated from the territory of Ukraine, except for the foreign citizens who took advantage of the buses and the organized train compositions”, said Teodora Genchovska.

She shared that there are many willing Bessarabian Bulgarians who want to come to Bulgaria, pointing out that there are organized regular bus lines for them. “Tomorrow we plan to visit Moldova. There are currently over 40 Bulgarians in Chisinau who want to be evacuated. We will use the opportunity to be there to get them on a government plane and evacuate them”, said Minister Genchovska.

At the end of the meeting, the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs wished success to our diplomats and assured them that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to provide the necessary assistance.
