Deputy Minister Petrova participates in Conference on Support for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Western Balkans

Deputy Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova took part in a conference on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the Western Balkans and their path to European integration. The event was organized by the University of National and World Economy in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and the Embassy of Japan in Sofia.

The participants analysed the policies and development opportunities of small and medium-sized companies in the region, the lessons learned and the potential for future cooperation.

“In the last three years, four projects in the field of disaster risk prevention and support for small and medium-sized enterprises have been implemented in the Western Balkans region. Another Bulgarian-Japanese project is forthcoming, which is expected to be implemented this year “, Deputy Minister Petrova said to the forum participants.

She welcomed Japan’s longstanding support in the field, noting that Bulgaria is ready for further commitment to implementing shared initiatives within the Western Balkans Cooperation Initiative.

“Bulgaria and Japan share a rich history of traditionally friendly relations and active exchange. It will certainly not be an exaggeration to say that our relations in recent years have given a strong impetus to bilateral cooperation in all areas, including cooperation in the area of development “, Velislava Petrova said.

The conference, which was in a hybrid format, brought together politicians, scientists and business representatives from Bulgaria, Japan, and the Western Balkans.
