The stated donation represents the first non-reflex financial contribution from Bulgaria to UNHCR’s programs in Iran for supporting the Afghan refugee community in the nation. It comes at a time when the humanitarian needs of Afghan asylum seekers keep growing. Our country remains part of the efforts of the EUROPEAN UNION and the international community to meet the most acute humanitarian problems.
During a meeting with Ambassador Nikolina Kuneva at the Charge of Bulgaria in Tehran the Deputy Representative of UNHCR in Iran, Mrs. Inna Gladkova conveyed UNHCR’s gratitude for the humanitarian assistance of 50, 000 euros made by Bulgaria, as per the decision of the Council of Ministers dated December 15, 2022. The financial contribution to UNHCR will be invested in activities in support of Afghan refugees in Iran under projects in the fields of healthcare and schooling.
