The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Latvia based in Sofia Selver Khalil presented his credentials to President Egils Levits at an official virtual ceremony on July 5, 2021. Virtual service of credentials was introduced due to the COVID pandemic, and credentials are sent in advance under the procedure established.

During Ambassador Khalil’s conversation with President Levits, the excellent cooperation between the two countries was emphasised, as well as the similarities on a number of topics on the European Union’s agenda. Emphasis was also placed on the fruitful partnership regarding the Three Seas Initiative and the forthcoming Sixth Summit, July 8-9, 2021, Sofia.

Ambassador Khalil held a protocol meeting with Dagmara Beitnere-Le Gala, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia. During the conversation, the possibilities for deepening the bilateral parliamentary dialogue between the two countries were discussed.

Possibilities for deepening bilateral co-operation, including in the field of tourism and economy, were discussed at a previous virtual meeting with the Secretary of State Andris Pache.

In 2022 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Latvia.
