To learn more on the B-FAST mechanism: https://b-fast.be/en Our country responds therefore to the request for assistance released by Ukraine via the Western european Civil Protection Mechanism (MEPC) as a result of the military intrusion of Ukraine by Russian federation, which targets basic civilian infrastructure. Belgium takes this opportunity to express once again its full solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are facing the harsh realities of war and winter. The FPS Foreign Matters and Development Cooperation coordinates this mission in its capability as the B-FAST Secretariat, within consultation with the Prime Minister’s Office as well as the FPS General public Health, Ministry of Protection, the FPS Interior as well as the FPS Strategy and Support (BOSA). 5 trucks were already sent to Ukraine at the end of November to move the first 125 tons of sodium on site. From earlier January 2023 to the beginning of March, until 10 trucks will leave each week. In total, no less than 110 in order to 115 trucks will make the particular journey to Ukraine to deliver the road salt, donated by Flemish Roads and Visitors Agency ( Vlaams Agentschap Wegen sobre Verkeer ) and its supervising minister Lydia Peeters. B-FAST works with the Directorate General of the Western european Commission in charge of Civil Safety and Humanitarian Aid Procedures (DG ECHO) to organise this transport. Belgium will send 3, 000 a lot of salt to Ukraine to deice public roads in the present winter conditions. Road salt is essential to allow the Ukrainian population to remain mobile regardless of the war and the unfavorable weather conditions at this time of the year. This aid shipment represents an overall total value of 600, 000 pounds, including transport costs. It is a cooperation between Flanders, for that donation of road salt, and the Federal state, giving logistical coordination at European level and transport through the B-FAST mechanism.
