Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade with responsibility for trade, the Honourable Sandra Husbands, has lauded the efforts undertaken by three regional entities to expand trade in Barbados, Guyana and Suriname.

The virtual signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on 30 July 2021 by the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Suriname Trade and Industry Association comes against of the background of tripartite discussions which focused on deepening trade amongst the three countries.

In describing the signing ceremony as an historic event, Minister Husbands highlighted the importance of the MOU.

“I believe that we are making progress in our endeavors to be able to broaden our trade prospects, all the work, which the three chambers have participated in to deepen trade over the months, to remove the barriers to trade are bearing fruit, and the results could not come at a more critical time,” she opined.

“Indeed, our global economy is currently undergoing a major revolution, resulting in an escalation of prices of goods, including our cultural properties. We all have to ensure that the security of our region rests on a sustainable and equitable footing and we must be able to effectively utilise the CARICOM space to maximise our efforts at ensuring security. Guyana, Suriname and indeed Belize are in the best position to ensure that food security is created,” the Minister observed. (END)
