Minister Frankie Campbell offers Congratulations to Ms. Marion Bethel on her successful re-election to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the term 2021-2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development offer their sincere congratulations to Ms Marion Bethel for her successful re-election as a member to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the term 2021-2024, at the elections held yesterday, 9th November, 2020, at the 21st Meeting of States-Party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Ministries are confident that recognition of Ms Bethel’s capacity and expertise allowed her to continue to make significant contributions to the Committee, its work, The Bahamas and the International Community. Nineteen (19) candidates vied to fill the eleven (11) vacancies on the CEDAW Committee for the period 2021-2024. Only one round of voting was required to do so, with Ms Bethel receiving the second-most number of votes.

In this connection, the Ministries are most grateful for the support of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for its endorsement of Ms Marion Bethel, and wish to thank all of the States-Party, especially Small States, that extended their support. Special thanks go to the Team at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Geneva, the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their hard work and dedication throughout the campaign.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to you, Ms Marion Bethel, on your return to your work and contributions in this New Term!
