Xhaçka at the NCEI round table: EU must accelerate the integration of Western Balkans as it is the most threatened region after Ukraine

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, spoke at the round table of the National Council of EU Integration where the challenges of EU integration were discussed.

Minister Xhaçka stressed that after the crisis caused by the situation in Ukraine, it was logical for the EU to accelerate the integration process in order to stabilize the Western Balkans region.

According to her, this did not happen and the Ukraine is turning into a source of distraction and reason to postpone decisions on the integration of the region.

“The Western Balkans is probably the second most threatened region by Vladimir Putin’s intrigues, after Ukraine. Today we see an EU where the approach to the integration of our region has not changed in concrete terms. What is certain is that as the EU is taking its time, we will continue to work for the reforms and for the Europeanization of the country and we will continue to work with all our possibilities to deepen the regional cooperation. As we will continue to work with all our capabilities in the Security Council and everywhere, to advance the common agenda of priorities”, said Chief Diplomat Xhaçka in her speech.

Part of the roundtable was also the EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca, for whom Minister Xhaçka expressed high appreciation, considering him a good friend who has helped and supported Albania in the integration process.
