Security Council meeting on UN-EU cooperation, Minister Xhaçka: Multilateralism, the key to addressing crises the world is facing today

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, chaired the meeting of the Security Council on “Cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional (EU) organizations”.
Minister Xhaçka praised the close cooperation between the UN and the EU, describing it as essential in addressing the growing and complexity of international peace and security crises the world is facing today.
“We strongly believe that the crisis the world is going through, call for more multilateralism, for more concerted and united actions, including most primarily, in the Security Council, the UNGA and throughout the UN System.
“The EU is the largest financial contributor, therefore exerts its influence and projects its actions related to humanitarian, development and conflict resolution worldwide”, she stated.
Minister Xhaçka emphasized the support of the European Commission for EU enlargement, as she mentioned that Albania is ready to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference.
“We are happy to be able to say, that we have done our part, and that we are ready for the next chapter, in a process that should move on with its invaluable political weight, an irreversible investment to stability, security and a common safe and secure future”, she stressed.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles said that multilateralism today is under pressure like never before and that there is a need for global cooperation.
“Team Europe” stands by its partners and supports the United Nations role, including the Global Crisis Response Group. European Union sanctions are not the cause of food shortages. They target the Kremlin’s ability to finance the military aggression — not the conduct of legitimate trade’’, said Borrell among others
