Minister Xhaçka to New York, participates in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the “Friendship Group on Accountability”

After the NATO summit, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, left for New York, where on Friday she will participate in the high-level meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Group of Friends of Accountability, referring to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Following the denunciation of the UN General Assembly for the acts committed by Russia, as a violation of the principles of the UN Charter as well as the continuation of the mechanisms set up by the International Community, to hold accountable the perpetrators of war crimes for serious human rights violations and abuses, Albania, Colombia, Denmark, the Marshall Islands, the Netherlands and Ukraine co-founded this forum, which will be dedicated to securing responsibility for international crimes committed in Ukraine.

The Group of Friends of Accountability will be positioned in New York and Geneva and will aim to exchange information between states, international organizations, institutions and civil society, optimizing the accountability and justice process but also engaging small countries in the process.

The meeting will be attended by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim AA Khan, who has already opened the case of Ukraine, after being referred to court by 41 countries, including Albania, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
